The Bad Ass Art And Music Show at the QBar Darien last night felt like a bite-size combination of fun-filled events like Mardi Gras, Lollapalooza, or any major rock concert you can think of. I saw all types of interesting things there - light & dark colorful art pieces on display, cool homemade jewelry - some made out of eco-friendly recycled material, creative makeup artistry with lots of color and glitter, eye-popping photography, and an artist demonstrating his skills live by painting a new piece right at the scene. On top of that, there was a concert going on with several great rock and metal bands taking their turns on stage. Plus, there was good food and drinks available for purchase only a few feet away. Everyone was friendly, completely down-to-earth, and very easy to talk to despite their intimidating bad ass appearances. They were all just like me - light-hearted adults having some much needed fun in a cool, rock ‘n roll kind of way.

I participated in the Bad Ass Art and Music Show that was held at the Stadium Sports Club in Rolling Meadows on August 22nd 2015. First of all, I would like to thank Evan J. Thomas, who organized the event, for choosing me as one of the featured artists. Evan is a great, personable guy who took a lot of time answering my numerous e-mails with questions I had about the event and what I needed to do in order to get the best experience possible. He cares about his event and is very forthcoming with information about a multitude of things that can and will come up.
The event is a big gathering of diverse people who want to have a good time while looking and selling the art and jewelry offered and is family-friendly. There is a $5 cover charge and then $1 beers. Two musical acts entertained the crowd and the artists. The art and jewelry is displayed in a tight but efficient space where each artist has a section of a wooden partition to display their work. There was metalwork and jewelry offered for sale and a tarot card reader giving readings. The art is widely diverse from fine photography to outsider art, tag art, abstract art, etc. It is a no pressure atmosphere that makes the experience a very social and relaxed experience. I soon fell in with a couple of artist who made the experience relaxed and fun for me as I tend to be a little reserved in gatherings like this.
This is not the stuffy atmosphere that many people associate with an art event. This is a celebration of art at it's most diverse, a party where people are having a good time and enjoying themselves and everyone is accepted and welcome. I was pleased with the results and will gladly participate in the future events!
